Tennis is a very tough sport and like many other sports requires a great deal of dedication, training and self belief. I turned professional four years ago and am now

based at Gosling High Performance Centre where I train 6 days a week. A typical training week for me not only consists of tough sessions on the court and in the gym but also a lot of my time off the court is spent analysing videos of my most recent matches. Spending time watching these matches has really helped me define the key areas I need to work on, and has given me a clear understanding of my game style.

I started playing tennis seriously at the age of nine, left home at twelve to train full time at Loughborough and moved to Spain for two years at the age of 16. As a junior I represented GB at all age groups from U12 to U18, reached a Junior World Ranking of 84 and competed in three Junior Wimbledon Championships including doubles with Laura Robson.

Experiencing the support of the British crowds gave me a real thrill and incentive to improve. Competing in The Maureen Conolly Cup for GB against players such as Sloane Stephens, Maddison Keyes and Grace Minn and at Eastbourne playing Eugiene Bouchard shows I can compete at this high international level of tennis and gives me the drive to set my goals higher. I have a career high of 540 in the world in singles and 367 in doubles. Due to a few injuries over the past couple of years I haven't been able to play as many tournaments as I had planned and subsequently my ranking dropped significantly. I am now fully fit and back competing with a great team behind me at Gosling and I feel very optimistic for what lies ahead.

Tennis however, is a very expensive sport and requires travelling to various tournaments around the world. I do my best to support myself as much as possible and have done so for the past two years, however to enable me to play the amount of tournaments necessary to further my career I really need that extra support to reach my goal of competing at Grand Slams. I have recently set up my own website www.lucybrowntennis.com to try and gain publicity and raise funds for my tennis. Over the past few days I have linked up with Pledge Sports and created a crowdfunding campaign page that is now live to try and raise funds to enable me to travel to tournaments abroad. You can visit my campaign at https://www.pledgesports.org/projects/tennis-sponsorship-lucy-brown/. Any donations are very much appreciated and go a long way to furthering my career.
