Hewitt Takes On Canada
Ashley Hewitt is beginning a tournament block in Canada starting the 11th August through to the 21st September. Hewitt, who has a singles career ranking high of 355 is looking to build off his win at the $10, 000 Futures tournament in Buffalo, NY and a finalist appearance at the Newcastle $10, 000 event which he previously won in 2013.
The 22 year old who is currently training full time at the USN Bolton Arena will be competing in five $15, 000 tournaments in Canada across six weeks which include locations Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto and Markham. Success at these events will enable Hewitt to achieve his short term goal of obtaining a world ranking inside the top 250 by the end of 2014. His medium term goal is to make more appearances on the ATP challenger tour, which will give him the opportunity to earn more ranking points.
Undoubtedly there is a significant step from where Hewitt is now in the future events to where he aims to be in the challenger events. However with a counter puncher game style and a high level of endurance to match, Hewitt has the potential to progress far in the modern game. His ability to convert defence in to attack will allow him to outlast his opponents and feed off their pace with his smart shot-making. Consequently, with the adequate amount of support he should achieve his long term goal of gaining a world ranking within the top 150.
Hewitt is currently sponsored by Prince and Adidas for his rackets and clothing respectively. However, Ashley has no financial support from any outside sources and the costs of traveling and training add up considerably. Any support available would be welcomed to ensure that he can continue to pursue his career as a professional tennis player.
