Amy Bowtell In Irish Federation Cup Team 2015
Tennis Ireland announced last week the Irish Fed Cup team to play in the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Euro/Africa Zone Group II event which takes place in Tallinn from the 4th – 7th February 2015.
Amy Bowtell will lead the team with Julie Byrne, Lauren Deegan and Rachael Dillon, joining her in the Tere Tennis Centre in Tallinn, Estonia. Yvonne Doyle is their non-playing captain.
The Group II is played in a round-robin style tournament, with two pools of four teams. Other nations involved are:
Bosnia/Herzegovina, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Luxembourg, Slovenia and South Africa. Each pool winner will play against the number two teams in the other pool to determine which two nations will advance to the Europe Africa Zone Group I in 2016.
Ireland defeated Malta and Iceland in the Euro/Africa Zone Group III event in 2014 to progress into the promotion play-offs by topping the pool. Facing Greece for a place in Europe/Africa Zone Group II, Jane Fennelly lost to Valentini Grammatikopoulou before Amy Bowtell levelled the tie and partnered Rachael Dillon in the doubles to earn promotion to the Group II event.
