Richard Gabb started out playing tennis at Millfield School in Somerset aged 7, before moving to Bath. Richard currently trains full time at Team Bath Tennis Academy, where he has been based since the age of 17 allowing him to train and travel with other professional players.
As a junior Richard reached a top ranking of 104 in the world competing on the Junior ITF Circuit. Whilst competing on the junior tour Richard was luckily enough to play at Junior Wimbledon in both singles and doubles where he reached the quarter-finals in the doubles. He also represented Great Britain as a junior in the under 16 Winter Cup, Under 18 Summer Cup and European Championships. Not only did Richard represent his country throughout his junior career but also won the under 18 British Nationals singles and doubles in 2010.
Richard turned professional at the young age of just 17 and is currently ranked 425 in the world with a career high of 410. Richard to date has won one $10,000 event in Greece and thirteen $10,000 doubles titles all over the world with a current doubles ranking of 308. This year Richard has already reached two $10,000 event finals in doubles narrowly missing out on more titles.
Richard’s short term goal is to make Wimbledon Qualifying this year and to be ranked within the top 300 by the end of the year 2014. His medium term goal is to compete regularly on the challenger circuit where he can earn more ranking points and prize money to aid in funding his career. Richard’s long term career goal is to represent Great Britain in the Davis Cup and to make the top 100 in the world competing at all four Grand Slams.
Currently, Richard is fortunate enough to be sponsored by Volkl and Fila for rackets and clothing, respectively. However, he has no monetary support to aid him travelling to tournaments and therefore, encourage his progression as a professional tennis player, so would really appreciate your support.
